The Clemson University College of Education is centered Clemson’s historic Tillman Hall. Our programs enroll some 600 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. The College of Education trains teachers, counselors and leaders for P–12 schools, prepares counselors for community practice and higher education, and prepares training and development specialists for business and industry. We are nationall

y accredited by the State of South Carolina, NCATE (recently merged with TEAC to become CAEP), and CACREP. Our teacher preparation programs, literacy, and principal and superintendency educational leadership programs are nationally recognized by their specialized professional association standards. Molly Yonkers ’26, counselor education/student affairs, received the 2026 Palmetto Award for Outstanding Graduate Professional at the NASPA-SC Annual Drive-In Conference. The award recognizes graduate professionals for significant campus contributions, academic achievement and leadership at their institutions. Learning Sciences Ph.D. student Verdah Rehan has been awarded the P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship (IPS) of $10,000 for the 2026–2027 academic year. The IPS is awarded by P.E.O. International, a global philanthropic organization, founded in 1869 at Iowa Wesleyan University, that supports women’s education through scholarships and grants. The IPS is a competitive, need-based award for international women pursuing graduate study in the United States or Canada. This week, we are celebrating all our cooperating teachers and recognizing those we visited last week during Teacher Appreciation Week! Today, we recognize Kate Durham, Jonathan Davis and Laura McMillan!

As she wraps up her 11th year of teaching, Kate Durham of Ravenel Elementary says one of her favorite parts of mentoring Clemson student teachers is watching their growth from fall to spring and sharing lessons learned beyond the textbook. She praised Lucy Lee for going above and beyond to support teachers in training.

Jonathan Davis of Easley High School hosted his first Clemson student teacher this year. He praised the strong support from Clemson faculty and said building a positive, collaborative relationship with student teacher Sarah Dennis made the experience especially meaningful. Davis added that he would highly recommend Clemson student teachers for their willingness to jump in and give their best effort.

Laura McMillen of Powdersville High School hosted her first Clemson student teacher this year. She said the experience highlighted the collaborative nature of teaching through shared resources, reflection and community-building traditions. McMillen also praised Clemson’s College of Education for preparing future educators and providing strong support throughout the student teaching experience.

This week, we are celebrating all our cooperating teachers and recognizing those we visited last week during Teacher Appreciation Week! Today, we recognize Caitlyn Farthing, Bethany Johnson and Carolyn Vaughan!

After nine years in education and two years hosting Clemson student teachers, Caitlyn Farthing of Monaview Elementary says watching future educators grow in confidence and transition from student to teacher is one of the most rewarding parts of mentoring. She added that the relationships built among teachers and Clemson students help make each day in the profession meaningful.

Bethany Johnson of Pickens High School says her favorite part of hosting Clemson student teachers is watching them learn and grow in the classroom. She added that mentoring is a shared learning experience and appreciates the students’ dedication to becoming the best educators they can be.

Carolyn Vaughan teaches fifth grade at Sara Collins Elementary. Now in her 23rd year of teaching, Vaughan says hosting Clemson student teachers has been a rewarding experience. In her second year mentoring Clemson students, she praised student teacher Katelyn Castaneda for her passion, creativity and dedication to designing meaningful, challenging lessons that inspired students in the classroom.
