2 new chairs from CECAS departments were recently celebrated as having finished the second ever New Chair Onboarding cohort! Dr. Robert Prucka (left) Department Chair of Automotive Engineering and Dr. Alexander Leonessa (right) Department Chair of Mechanical Engineering, were part of this nine-month, cohort-based program designed to support faculty as they transition into one of the University’s most complex leadership roles.

These two now oversee departments with some of the largest numbers of graduate students in the college. And having gone through sessions of mentoring circles, success coaches and interactive discussions led by experienced academic leaders, subject-matter experts and University professionals from across Clemson, Dr. Prucka and Dr. Leonessa are well positioned to lead their graduate programs to new heights!

Daniel Hong took his CECAS GSAB Travel Grant win to help him chase his dreams in the desert! 🏜️ Daniel, a current MS student in Computer Science, was one of the select awardees this year, which helped to cover his presentation at the IEEE/CVF Winter Conference on Applications of Computer Vision in Tucson, Arizona. His presentation was entitled "Motion Focus Recognition in Fast-Moving Egocentric Video."

He wasn't the only Tiger in the Grand Canyon State. Pictured in photo 1 are Hao Wang, a PhD student in Computer Science and his PhD advisor, Dr. Abolfazl Razi.

Congrats to Daniel on his big win and for representing Clemson so well!

Everyone say hey to Padam Prasad Paudel, and the person he would like to recognize for supporting his time at Clemson, Dr. Ashish Manandhar 👋

Padam, who is a PhD student in Biosystems Engineering, submitted this public recognition of Dr. Manandhar, a person who he says has guided and motivated him, all with a friendly and approachable demeanor. Dr. Manandhar started at Clemson back in August, after years as a Research Scientist at Ohio State University, and is already making positive impacts - not only in the research world, but in the student mentorship world as well!

Thanks to Padam for submitting and highlighting his amazing experiences. And thanks to Dr. Manandhar for being such a positive force in student's lives!

There is no better place to be in the summer than Clemson and the South Carolina Upstate! 🌙🌴 For graduate students staying local, slide 2 has fun summer ideas, many of which are here in Clemson, some of which are within a 30 minute drive, and others of which are within an hour drive.

A travel grant sent a graduate student all the way to Barcelona, Spain this past semester! 🇪🇸

Goun Bae, a student in the Masters of Applied Computing program in , was one of the 2026 recipients of the CECAS Graduate Student Advisory Board Travel Grant! With it, she funded her travel to in Barcelona, to present her poster "When LLMs See Where You Struggle: A Gaze-to-Context Approach for Reader-Driven Reading Assistance."

Amazing research presented at an amazing, world-wide conference is just the latest in the numerous examples of opportunities for graduate engineering and science students at Clemson. So proud of Goun for her representing the Tigers so well!

🔸Matt Harrington (President), a Master of Engineering student in Biomedical Engineering after completing a Master of Science in Bioengineering last week!

🔸Namrata Surve (Vice President), a PhD student in Computer Science who earned a Master of Science from Clemson in that discipline in 2024!

🔸Rupali Sharma (Treasurer), a PhD student in Materials Science and Engineerng!

🔸Mark Abuanor (Secretary), a PhD student in Civil Engineering who earned his Master of Science in that discipline in 2025!

This ELT, along with board members representing departments across our college, are eager to offer opportunities, initiatives, and solutions to our graduate student body in CECAS!

Celebrating the over 35 students turned alumni from engineering and science programs who earned their PhD tonight, many of them walking across the stage to accept thanks from our Associate Dean, the Graduate School Dean, and President Jones. Earning a terminal degree is a difficult and arduous journey - and to achieve a terminal degree in fields of engineering and science, from an R1 research institution like , is that much more impressive!
