Clemson Family,
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lieutenant Colonel Claude Everette Cooper, Jr., Clemson '67, on February 10th, 2026.
Lieutenant Colonel Cooper enrolled in Clemson University in 1958 and enlisted in the Army two years later. He served as a Special Forces medic in Vietnam in 1963-64. After his military service, he returned to Clemson University and graduated in 1967.
He was a very integral member of the Clemson Family, participating in the included Delta Kappa Alpha fraternity, Central Dance Committee, Tiger Brotherhood, and the Clemson baseball team. After graduating from Clemson, he attended Officer Candidate School, where he made lifelong friends, to commission as a Second Lieutenant.
Lieutenant Colonel Cooper dedicated 28 years of honorable service to the Army. His accolades include the Legion of Merit, two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, four Meritorious Service Medals, The National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Master Parachutist Badge.
After retiring from military service, Lieutenant Colonel Cooper remained very involved at Clemson. He was a long-standing prolific researcher and historian with Clemson Corps. He also authored four books: a memoir titled "Leavings: Honeycutt to Cooper Ridge;โ "Finding Strong,"; "Deacs,"; and "G.O.A.T.S of Clemson Baseball.โ
He was recently recognized this past December as the Hero of the Game for Clemson Men's Basketball.
We will dearly miss you, Lieutenant Colonel Cooper. Thank you for your dedication to our Nation and to Clemson University.
