This year’s speaker is Dr. Jack Bauer, Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Dayton. We’re thrilled to celebrate our incredible master’s students who presented their research at the 2025 Association for Psychological Science Annual Convention in Washington, D.C.! From flash talks to poster sessions, our students shared innovative work on topics like mindfulness, mental health, trauma, and emotion regulation. Representing our department with professionalism, passion, and insight, they’re already making meaningful contributions to the field of psychological science. On Friday April 25, the Department of Psychology hosted our second-annual end of year Data Blitz & Award Banquet in the Student Center Ballroom. It was a great afternoon filled with food, fun, and community. Dr. Eric Allard hosted our Data Blitz where we heard research presentations from 10 students & faculty working in our psychology labs, then Dr. Ken Vail presented department scholarships & awards, and lastly new members were inducted into Psi Chi, the honor society in psychology. This year a special speech and award was presented to Steve Slane who has worked with the department for 50 years.

Congrats to all scholarship winners, outstanding undergraduate and graduate students, Outstanding Research Awardee Kathleen Reardon, Outstanding Part-Time Professor Awardee Laura Gabel, and Outstanding Full-Time Professor Awardee Shereen Naser. Congrats to all of our students and faculty for all of their various accomplishments throughout this past school year! Good luck and best wishes to all graduates! We enjoyed bringing everyone together and celebrating our entire department.

Cleveland State University was one of the most represented universities there, with over 48 presentations! We’re so proud of the amazing work you shared—your dedication, curiosity, and insight are helping shape the future of psychology. Once a month during the school year, the Department of Psychology welcomes a speaker to share their current findings on a major psychological topic, breaking it down so it’s accessible for students. Join us Wednesday, April 16 from 12:30-1:30 for lunch and a talk from Dr. Ilya Yaroslavsky, MER Lab Director and Clinical Psychology Faculty Member. Join us to learn about “Ketamine: A Breakthrough Antidepressant Therapy in Search of Mechanisms”. This presentation will explore ketamine pharmacotherapy in its various forms as a breakthrough treatment for depressive disorders. Dr. Y will examine data from a national telehealth ketamine therapy provider and preview results from an ongoing experience sampling study on oral ketamine’s therapeutic effects and neuroscience-informed mechanisms of action.
