Kappa Sigma Fraternity at Delta State Central to Kappa Sigma is dedication to its four pillars: Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship and Service.

As a Fellowship, the Fraternity is a proving ground to try out and list to new ideas, a place where one can learn interpersonal skills and principles of management and government critical to developing Leadership skills necessary for professional life after college. It is a place which fosters academic growth, enhancing the Scholarship mission of the institution where a chapter is located. By offering richly diverse experiences and bringing together men of different backgrounds, members gain a sense of duty and Service to the college or university, the Fraternity and the community at large.

This week's Member Monday features Owen Ferguson, a 2025 initiate from Patterson, Missouri, who currently serves as our Grand Scribe.

Owen is studying Entertainment Industry Studies and Audio Engineering at Delta State, where he's heavily involved with the Delta Music Institute (DMI). Between performing with DMI bands, managing the studio, and helping out Phi Mu Alpha, his nights are often long and his coffee mug rarely empty.

Music has been a major part of Owen's life since he picked up a guitar at age 13, inspired by seeing KISS perform live. Since then, he's expanded his talents to bass guitar, three types of saxophone, singing, and songwriting.

But music isn't his only talent. Back home in Missouri, Owen is also a part-time sheep farmer, helping his family grow their flock from four sheep to around 50. When he's not making music or tending sheep, he enjoys spending time with his five dogs, bowling, kayaking, and fishing with his dad.

Owen joined Kappa Sigma because the brothers made him feel welcome and comfortable being himself. His favorite memory remains initiation night, when he officially became part of a brotherhood he says gave him a sense of belonging and purpose.

And something you might not know about Owen? He says he met Vice President JD Vance during a visit to Oxford last October, managed to make him laugh, and even walked away with what Owen describes as an endorsement for his own presidential campaign in 2048.

From sheep farming to the White House. Apparently, Owen has a plan.

We're proud to have Owen as part of the brotherhood and excited to see what he continues to bring to Lambda-Pi.

Drop a comment and show Owen some love! 🤝

This week’s Member Monday features Alex Telle, a 2024 initiate from Nassau, The Bahamas, who currently serves as our Grand Procurator.

Alex is studying Commercial Aviation Management at Delta State and is actively involved in the chapter’s Military Heroes Campaign and fundraising efforts. When he’s not busy with school or fraternity responsibilities, you’ll probably find him at the gym, cooking, or playing soccer.

Alex joined Kappa Sigma for the brotherhood and, in his own words, because he wanted "something to do in Cleveland." Since then, some of his favorite memories have included chapter social events and Waffle House trips with his brothers.

What surprised him most about Kappa Sigma? How relatable everyone is, despite their different backgrounds.

And speaking of different backgrounds, Alex has already visited more than 10 countries! Not bad for someone who came to Cleveland looking for something to do.

Drop a comment and show Alex some love! 🤝

**🏛️ Throwback Thursday: Brotherhood Through the Years**

Throwing it back eight years to a reunion of some of our Brothers from the 1974–1976 era, the men who helped build the foundation of Kappa Sigma at Delta State University.

Without the Brothers who came before us, we wouldn't have the chapter or the brotherhood we enjoy today. Their friendships, dedication, and contributions helped make Lambda-Pi what it is.

Different generations. Same brotherhood. AEKDB.

Member Monday: Connor Long

This week’s Member Monday is Connor Long, a Spring 2026 initiate from Collierville, Tennessee.

Connor is studying Aviation Flight Operations at Delta State and stays busy both inside and outside the chapter. He serves as our Aura Master, Chaplain, and Intramural Chair, while also being involved with the Wesley Servant Team and serving as a Delta Diplomat with Admissions.

Yes, the chapter has an Aura Master. No, we’re not entirely sure what that means either.

When he’s not maintaining the chapter’s aura, Connor enjoys going to the gym, reading his Bible, playing pickleball, and watching anime.

Connor joined Kappa Sigma because he liked the brothers, and his favorite memory so far has been pledging alongside his pledge brothers.

When asked what surprised him most about Kappa Sigma, Connor’s answer was simple: “We have someone from Scotland in the frat.”

And finally, something people might not know about Connor?

He can bench 135.

Aura: maintained.

We’re proud to have Connor as part of the brotherhood and excited to see what he continues to bring to Lambda-Pi.

Drop a comment and show Connor some love! 🤝

Member Monday: John Garner

This week’s Member Monday is John Garner, a Fall 2025 initiate from Wynne, Arkansas.

John is studying Aviation Management at Delta State and currently serves as the Grand Master of the Lambda-Pi Chapter. He also stays active in community service, and when he’s not busy with school or the chapter, you’ll probably find him hiking, spending time outdoors, or enjoying marksmanship disciplines.

John joined Kappa Sigma because he wanted to be around friends and good people, and his favorite memory so far is the chapter’s trip to Lake Charles last Spring.

What surprised him most about Kappa Sigma? The true scale of the brotherhood.

And something people might not know about our Grand Master?

He cannot write in cursive.

Fortunately, that has not yet been listed as a requirement for the office.

We’re proud to have John leading the chapter and excited to see what he continues to bring to Lambda-Pi.

Drop a comment and show John some love! 🤝

Today, Kappa Sigma is supporting Blue Out Day.

During National Missing & Trafficked Foster Children Awareness Week, we’re joining See Us Now to raise awareness for the roughly 20,000 foster youth who go missing each year and encourage others to step up and take action.

Whether you choose to advocate, donate, volunteer, mentor, educate, or amplify the message, every step can help bring greater attention to missing and trafficked foster youth.

Step Up. Do Something.

Throwback Thursday: When the Fighting Okra Came to Life

The Fighting Okra had been an idea around Delta State for years, with plenty of campus myth and legend.

Then, in 1997, Brother Brian Formby gave that idea its first life-size form.

The original version was built for a Kappa Sigma Homecoming float, but it didn’t survive. So in 1997, Brother Formby went back to work and created the second life-size version of what would eventually become one of Delta State’s most recognizable traditions.

The ingredients?

$50. Ten yards of fabric. Batting. Broadcloth. Felt. Fake fur. Cardboard. A pair of house slippers.

And the rest is history.

What started as a homemade life-size “Okra Man” went on to become the Fighting Okra we know today; appearing on ESPN and national television, becoming part of Delta State athletics, and even watching over campus from the water tower.

Not bad for $50 and a pair of house slippers.

Member Monday: Cameron Seymour

This week, we’re kicking off Member Monday with Cameron Seymour, a Spring 2026 initiate from Vancleave, Mississippi.

Cameron is studying Commercial Flight Operations at Delta State, serves as our Social Chair, and is involved with DSU Wesley. When he’s not busy with school or the chapter, you’ll probably find him fishing, hunting, keeping up with fashion, or somewhere near the beach.

His favorite part of Kappa Sigma so far? The entire pledgeship experience.

And when asked why he chose Kappa Sigma, Cameron summed it up pretty well:
“The biggest. The best.”

We’re proud to have Cameron as part of the brotherhood and excited to see what he brings to Kappa Sigma.

Drop a comment and show Cameron some love! 🤝
