John Carroll University, Art History Department

John Carroll University, Art History Department This page will allow students, faculty, and alumni to follow what is going on in the Art History department of JCU and the surrounding art community.

The department offers courses in the historical and theoretical study of the visual arts, in addition to studio arts courses. Art History explores art as a record of human creativity and allows the work to be experienced in its original artistic and intellectual context. Students make use of the superb art collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art for their coursework. Those enrolled in upper-lev

el courses may obtain special permission to use the extensive research facilities at the Ingalls Library, one of the largest museum library in the country. Qualified majors have the opportunity to gain valuable experience by participating in internships at the museum, where they may assist with preparation of exhibits, do archival research on objects, help with public lectures, conduct surveys, work with public relations, or engage in slide curatorship. Internships are also available in area arts organizations. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the numerous study abroad programs available through the Center for Global Education at John Carroll.
