"I am now able to experiment. I can challenge convention, develop my own unique style, and let my curiosity carve my path."

This summer, Macy Carter ’28 developed an original choral work for Hamilton’s annual choir tour to Washington, D.C., in March 2027. Working with Associate Professor of Music Charlotte Botha, conductor of the Hamilton College Choir, her work combines composition, research, and a growing interest in the ways music can connect people to a particular place.

A lifelong passion for soccer gave Finn Norsen ’28 the opportunity to combine his love of the game with his growing interest in photography. This summer, Finn served as the photographer and multimedia creator for the Western Mass Pioneers, documenting everything from pregame preparations to match-winning celebrations, while gaining firsthand experience in the fast-paced world of sports media.

"I’ve played soccer, followed soccer, and watched soccer all my life, so any opportunity to incorporate that passion into some professional experience would be an attractive one."

What do you learn when the people beside you are classmates, alumni, professors, and professional artists?

This summer, five Hamilton students and three recent graduates joined Assistant Professor of Theater Emily K. Harrison and a team of professional artists to stage Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

Researching, rehearsing, and experimenting together gave students a firsthand look at how professional theater gets made — and, as Roman Padera ’28 put it, taught them “a ridiculous amount about performing.”
