How do language, culture, and history shape the way we connect with one another?

For Lydia Awadalla ’26, that question inspired an award-worthy research project exploring the cultural and linguistic fusion of medieval al-Andalus. Presenting entirely in Spanish, Lydia examined how Arabic, Hebrew, and Romance languages came together to create literary and musical traditions that continue to influence the world today.

A magna cm laude graduate with degrees in Biology and Spanish, Lydia’s interdisciplinary research reflects the power of a Presbyterian College liberal arts education. At PC, students are encouraged to connect ideas across disciplines, pursue meaningful scholarship, and prepare for careers that make a difference.

Lydia carries forward a deeper understanding of cultural awareness, communication, and compassion as she prepares for medical school. These skills will help her serve patients from diverse backgrounds around the world. 💙
