Join our student physical therapist assistants at the Colby Senior Progress Center of Thomas County for FREE balance and vitals screens! Our students will help you identify if you are at risk for falling and provide you free resources to help reduce your fall risk at home.
Even if you don't feel like you have a balance issue, we would love to see you at the event to help our students practice their skills with real community members like you!

An unusually rainy day in Colby, KS could not stop the CCC PTA students from learning wheelchair mobility on campus! Here our students are learning to teach caregivers to move a person in a wheelchair up/down stairs. They also learn to navigate ramps, curbs, and utilize optimal stroke angle on the drive wheel to reduce likelihood of shoulder injury for community wheelchair users!

Please wish our CCC PTA students good luck on taking and passing their National Board Exam this week.
In case you were not aware, even if our students graduate from the CCC PTA program, they still have to pass a 5 hour national exam to become certified, practicing physical therapist assistants. They have all been studying hard since graduation in order to pass this critical last step of their education!

A big thank you to our friends at Parkinson's Families of NW KS for inviting the CCC PTA class to the annual fall conference. Our students sat amongst the greater northwest Kansas community on Saturday, listening to a motivational speaker, neurologist and movement disorder specialist, and a panel of speakers on both Parkinson's Disease and essential tremors. We were honored to host the conference here on the Colby Community College campus this year!

Functional mobility week wrapped up with learning how to transfer patients from various surfaces, using various methods. Our students learned to use slide boards, pivot discs, and good old physics to make transferring patients of all mobility levels with ease and comfort.

Student PTAs in action! One of our first labs in the CCC PTA program is how to properly guard a patient on various surfaces and community obstacles. Students learn to put on and hold a gait belt, how to position themselves relative to the patient, and how to start providing instructions on the safest way to maneuver curbs, stairs, and uneven surfaces with an assistive device.
