Ever wonder why your cat’s tongue feels like sandpaper? Their tongues are covered with tiny, backward-facing structures called papillae. These help cats groom their fur and strip meat from bones. 😨

🩺𝐕𝐞𝐭 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Those tiny papillae are fascinating but they also contribute to hair ingestion during grooming. This makes understanding normal grooming behavior important when assessing issues like hairballs or excessive grooming.

A dog’s resting heart rate can vary quite a bit depending on size. Smaller dogs generally have faster heart rates than larger dogs. This is one reason veterinary nurses consider a patient’s size, age and individual history when assessing vital signs.

🩺𝐕𝐞𝐭 𝐍𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Heart rate is one of the vital signs veterinary nurses monitor during exams, anesthesia, recovery, and hospitalization. Knowing what is normal for each patient is key!
