Today is Sizdah-bedar, also known as Nature Day, the celebration of the thirteenth and last day of Norooz celebrations. This day is celebrated by spending the day outdoors with family and friends. It is also a tradition to take the Sabzeh from Sofreh Haft Seen and throw it in a stream, a river, or anywhere where water flows. The action of throwing away the Sabzeh represents removing negativity from one’s home.

Please welcome another new member of the Persian Flagship Program, Beverly Zand! She's double majoring in Persian Studies and International Business. She joined the PFP because of the desire to achieve a superior level of proficiency in the Persian language. She had always wished to communicate fluently and confidently with her relatives in Iran. So she is grateful for this amazing opportunity at UMD. Traveling, swimming, and window shopping are some of her favorite activities.

Please welcome our new member of the Persian Flagship Program, Isabelle Lareau! Her major is Persian Studies. She joined the PFP because she wants to become a FSO (Foreign Service Officer) in a Persian Speaking country. She is a junior and she plans on applying to the Rangel Foreign Affairs Fellowship next year to hopefully continue studying Persian as well as international affairs or diplomacy. She loves exploring new places and cultures, surfing and snowboarding, and reading a good book on a rainy day.
