Applications for Project GO Study Abroad programs in Summer 2024 are due next week, on January 18th. Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to learn a critical language like Arabic while living in Morocco with fellow ROTC students from around the US! Here last year's UMD Project GO cohort are presented with their certificates of completion after a summer of intensive language study in Meknes. We were sad to see them go, but the friendships they made and the Arabic they learned will stay with them!

You still have over a month to assemble your application for a Project GO scholarship! You can learn a language like Arabic or Persian in just 9 weeks over the summer, fully-funded as part of your participation in ROTC. Here, Summer 2023 UMD PGO students sample various spices and herbs in the Meknes souk, specifically ras el hanout, a common spice in Moroccan and North African cuisine. After this visit to the market, students used their knowledge in several cooking activities over the summer to prepare Moroccan dishes.

This past summer, Project GO students at UMD traveled to Meknes, Morocco where they studied Arabic intensively. During their time in Morocco, the students visited many important historical and cultural sites around the country, including the seaside city of Tangier, seen here. Even though they had no experience learning Arabic, after just 9 weeks they were able to converse with Moroccans and give presentations in Arabic. The best part? It was all completely free because of the PGO scholarship!

Take advantage of this incredible opportunity to go abroad and learn about the Arabic language and Moroccan culture next summer! Learn more at https://www.rotcprojectgo.org/

Project Global Officer (GO) is a DOD initiative that offers fully-funded scholarships for ROTC students to spend a summer studying a critical language abroad or in the U.S. Here at the University of Maryland, we have programs for all levels of Arabic and Persian, including the nation's only Persian Project GO and an Arabic program in Morocco for complete beginners with no experience in the language. Learning one of these critical languages is a great investment in your future military or civilian career. Our intensive summer programs are a great way to start or continue your journey with Arabic or Persian, and they combine rigorous language classes, diverse cultural activities, and one-on-one time with conversation partners. A Project GO scholarship covers housing, tuition, meals, books, travel to and from the program location, and other expenses related to participation in the program.
