Next up on our Alumni Spotlight Series is Adam Buckley ’19! While in the Corps of Cadets, he was the Corps Sergeant Major and the Corps Commander. He was also a member of the Ross Volunteers. Upon graduation, he commissioned into the US Marine Corps and married his wife, Allie, in July. In September 2019, he reported to The Basic School (TBS) in Quantico Virginia and spent the next 6 months learning to become a Marine Corps officer. He was selected for Infantry and started the Infantry Officer Course in July 2020. He reported to the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines in October of 2020. He is currently serving as a rifle platoon commander.

When asked how being an Ace prepared him for Corps leadership and his career in the Marine Corps, Adam replied, “Squadron 4 taught me more about leadership than anything I did prior and anything I’ve done since. The outfit has a specific blend of focus on excellence, toughness and servant leadership that is extremely hard to find.”

Two of the featured speakers were Admiral McRaven (former commander of USSOCOM) and General Berger (38th Commandant of the Marine Corps)

This is the start of our second biweekly series, “Alumni Spotlight.” In this series, we will feature former Aces who have taken the lessons they have learned in the Corps of Cadets and have applied in either the military or public sector.

First up is James Rhodes ’21! He was Squadron 4’s Commanding Officer in the 2021-2022 school year and an Assistant Squad Leader in the Second Platoon of the Ross Volunteer Company. He was also a First Sergeant of the O.R. Simpson Corps Honor Society and a member of the Corps Triathlon team.

After graduating from Texas A&M, he started a 2-year service term as a teacher in Houston with Teach For America, an educational leadership organization. The reason he pursued this path is due to the amazing experience he had as a mentor and mentee as a member of Squadron 4.

“I was truly blessed by the family that is Squadron 4, which expanded my personal strength, perseverance, integrity and grit through extensive training…Squadron 4 made me the man I am today and I have been truly blessed by these experiences and lifelong friends. Aces high, or die!”

We are having a unit spotlight on Wednesday February 16th (2/16) at 1900, and would love to have you join us!

The Aces continuously prove year after year to be the top integrated outfit across the Quad. We maintain this high ranking by pushing ourselves through rigorous physical fitness while pursuing difficult academic workloads. Proving our training's effectiveness, Aces serve in both of ROTC's highest cadet Leadership positions. Having 60% of cadets contracted, we continue to commission stronger, smarter, and more experienced officers in to our military.

Come and learn what it takes to be an Ace!
