Aggie Green Fund

Aggie Green Fund This fee will generate approximately $300,000 per academic year for sustainability initiatives.

The Aggie Green Fund is a student initiated and student controlled fund that empowers students to take action and bring about novel and creative sustainability initiatives to the Texas A&M University campus. In the spring of 2010, a consortium of student organizations lead the charge to implement a $3.00 per fall or spring semester fee or a $1.50 summer semester fee. The students passed the referendum with 57% supporting the effort.

For day 13 of 15 years of AGF we are highlighting the project “Creating an active and sustainable culture at Texas A&M University School of Public Health” 🌿

Funded in 2022 as a Major Grant, this $50,700 project transforms unused space into a vibrant, sustainable green area designed to energize and support healthy living. Plans include butterfly and healing gardens, shaded seating, xeriscape landscaping, improved irrigation, and walking trails made with sustainable materials to improve drainage, plus a gathering space for classes and outreach.

It is said “The Spirit of Aggieland” is passed from one generation to the next. For 15 years, the Aggie Green Fund has been the ultimate proof.

While projects like gardens and solar panels are the visible results, the Advisory Committee is the engine. It’s a unique mix of 1-year student tenures and faculty/staff “pillars” who ensure every dollar of the student fund is used wisely.

By the Numbers:
👤 150+ Aggies have served on this committee.
📅 Cheers to our longest-serving member - Nathan Jones (Director, Utilities Services)
💡 Millions of dollars in grants reviewed and approved by students just like you.

From our first committee, to our most recent leaders, these individuals have volunteered their time to build a campus that is more efficient, more sustainable, and more beautiful.

To every former and current member: Your legacy is all around us. 🌲✨

For day 9 of 15 years of AGF we are spotlighting rudder led conversion! AGF funded this project in 2023 to replace all the incandescent bulbs in the PAR 64 stage lights with LEDs! Not only does it reduce electricity costs and energy consumption, but the LED fixtures increase safety by reducing the need to physically work at height.

Day 6 of 15 Years of AGF highlights water bottle filling stations across campus 💧

With over $338,356 invested, these stations make it easier to refill and help reduce single-use plastic. Small changes like this make a difference in everyday campus life.

When the Aggie Green Fund was established 15 years ago, finding a place to recycle on campus wasn’t easy. Today, sustainability is at your doorstep.

Over the last decade and a half, we have made massive investments in campus-wide recycling infrastructure. This collage isn’t just equipment, it’s a visible timeline of 15 years of progress.

We’ve brought three-stream sorting to:
📍 Main & West Campus Exterior Areas
🏠 Residence Halls
🔬 Academic Buildings
💻 Special Collections (like our E-Waste bins!)

We are proud to provide the bins that help Aggies make sustainable choices every single day.

💡 What is your favorite bin design or location?
