For many Bush School alumni, the events of 9/11 shaped not only what they remembered, but how they understood service, sacrifice and the people they served alongside.

Casey Blackburn ’03 remembers the “determined faces” of his teammates during those difficult days. The images of 9/11 remain deeply etched in his memory, but so do the people beside him. “Those were long days and difficult roads,” he recalled, “but I never felt alone.”

That spirit of service and shared purpose remains at the heart of The Bush School’s mission…and of our remembrance 25 years later.

Join us this Friday, Sept. 11, at 9:00 a.m. in the APCC as The Bush School commemorates the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The program will honor Welles Crowther, recognize the experiences of those who worked through the attacks and aftermath, and pay tribute to the first responders who ran toward danger.

Following the program, 2,977 flags will be displayed in the courtyard in remembrance of each life lost. Reveille and the First Lady of Aggieland will join us for Dean John B. Sherman’s tribute to first responders.

For Bush School alumni who entered public service after 9/11, the events of that day were not simply something they witnessed: they became part of the work they carried forward.

Cordt C. Cashen ’01 MPSA remembers the sound of the beeps from his new FDNY firefighter brothers who were dying at the World Trade Center. Each beep became a haunting reminder of the firefighters who had raced toward danger while others were racing away from it.

On Friday, Sept. 11, The Bush School will commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with a special program beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the APCC. The program will include The Legacy of the Red Bandana, a tribute to 9/11 hero Welles Crowther; Col. Mike Reilly, USMC (Ret.), reflecting on working in the Pentagon on 9/11; Dr. Nathan Harness, a survivor from the 61st floor of Tower 2; and Dean John B. Sherman’s tribute to first responders.

Following the program, 2,977 flags will be displayed in the courtyard in remembrance of every life lost.

Dr. Harris, from our Department of Public Service and Administration, is co-author of a new working paper exploring the costly effects of dust from the Great Salt Lake — potentially a multi-billion dollar challenge for neighboring communities.
