"Industrial Distribution" applies mathematics, science, engineering technology, business, data processing, communications, quality, and Supply Chain Management to the wholesaling and distribution of technological products. As an industrial distribution specialist, you may work directly for electronic systems manufacturers, petrochemical corporations, materials processors, large construction contractors, large industrial product consumers or the wholesale distributors that service these industries. 🛠️ ETID Students Beyond the Classroom: Summer 2026 Internships

At General Motors, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Technology (MMET) student Roberto De La Fuente ’27 applied engineering principles to real manufacturing challenges while gaining insight into the processes that drive the automotive industry.

As a manufacturing engineering intern, Roberto supported automation and process improvement projects. He analyzed production data to identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime, helped implement sensor-based monitoring solutions to enhance equipment performance, assisted with automation projects to improve inspection capabilities and product quality, and contributed to engineering solutions designed to reduce maintenance-related downtime.

“My internship gave me the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned in the MMET program to real manufacturing challenges in a fast-paced environment," Roberto said. "Working on automation, robotics and process improvement projects strengthened my technical skills, problem-solving abilities and confidence as an engineer."

Congratulations to Dr. Muhammed Faeyz Karim of our Electronic Systems Engineering Technology (ESET) program on his appointment as Associate Professor!

Dr. Karim is a director of Texas A&M University’s Microwave, Wireless, and Radar Research (MiWiRa) Laboratory. His research focuses on microwave and millimeter-wave radar systems and circuits, integrated silicon photonics and quantum photonics, wireless power transfer and energy harvesting, chipless RFID technologies, RF MEMS, metamaterials, nondestructive testing, and biosensing.

Of his research, Dr. Karim says, "Today's research is tomorrow's reality; our responsibility is to ensure it serves humanity."

With over 18 years of experience spanning industry, research and academia, Dr. Karim has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed journal and conference publications, holds five U.S. patents and is co-author of RF MEMS Switches and Integrated Switching Circuits. He previously served as Chair of the IEEE Singapore Section, currently serves as an Associate Editor of Microwave and Optical Technology Letters, is a Senior Member of IEEE and is co-founder of WaveScan Technologies Pte. Ltd.

Dr. Karim earned his PhD and MS degrees from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and holds an MBA from Lancaster University in the U.K.

🌐 ETID Research Advances the Future of Intelligent Wireless Networks

Dr. Sabit Ekin is part of a new NSF-funded collaborative research project focused on advancing intelligent wireless network systems for next-generation connectivity.

The project, FORMULA3: Framework for Optimal Resource Management Using Generalizable AI in FR3 Dynamic Programmable Wireless Environments, is a joint call between NSF and the Research Council of Finland: Verticals-enabling Intelligent Network Systems (VINES). The $1.45 million collaborative effort brings together researchers from five institutions across the United States and Finland, including Texas A&M University, Tennessee Tech University, New York University, Tampere University and Aalto University.

As the sole Texas A&M principal investigator, Dr. Ekin will lead the university’s portion of the project, contributing to research that supports faster, more reliable user-to-cloud connections and strengthens U.S. leadership in emerging telecommunications technologies.

Dr. Ekin is an associate professor and Charlotte and Walter Buchanan Faculty Fellow in our Electronic Systems Engineering Technology (ESET) program. He is also the director of the Generative AI Literacy Initiative at the Texas A&M Institute of Data Science.

A new way to become an Aggie engineer is coming to Fort Worth!

Beginning this fall, students can earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Distribution at the new Texas A&M-Fort Worth campus.

Located in one of the nation's fastest-growing centers for manufacturing, logistics and technology, the Fort Worth campus offers students a close-knit learning environment, strong industry connections and a direct path to in-demand careers.

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) has named Dr. Chukwuzubelu Ufodike as its Professional Technologist of the Year.

The award recognizes his technical achievement, professional impact, mentorship and service in the areas of AI-enhanced additive manufacturing, digital manufacturing, engineering education, mentorship and STEM pipeline development.

Dr. Ufodike is an Industrial Distribution Assistant Professor, the Charlotte & Walter Buchanan Faculty Fellow and the Director of the Digital Manufacturing and Distribution Lab.
