This semester, we are proud to celebrate a remarkable milestone for one of our most dedicated educators and mentors โ€” Professor Theresa Phinney, who is marking 40 years of teaching and an incredible 44 years of service to Texas A&M University.

Her story is deeply woven into the evolution of computing and information systems at Texas A&M. Professor Phinney began her career in 1981 in the universityโ€™s DPC (Data Processing Center), working as a Programmer and supporting the early computing systems that powered campus long before todayโ€™s digital world took shape.

On August 26, 1985, she taught her very first class as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Texas A&M University. That first semester in the classroom launched what would become four decades of influence โ€” shaping the technical skills, confidence, and careers of thousands of Aggies.

Her path led her to INFO Department - Mays Business School on January 19, 1999. Across these years, she has taught through multiple generations of programming languages, platforms, and tools โ€” all while providing unwavering support and encouragement to her students.

As we share a nostalgic photo from her early days as a computer programmer alongside a current portrait, we celebrate the full arc of her journey โ€” from the systems side of campus to the heart of the Mays classroom.

๐Ÿ’ฌ If you were one of the many students who learned from Professor Phinney, weโ€™d love to hear your favorite memory, lesson, or moment from her class in the comments below. Hereโ€™s to celebrating 40 years in the classroom and 44 years at Texas A&M โ€” and to the continued impact she has on our students and our community.

๐ŸŒŸ Alumni Spotlight: Bill Condon โ€™83 ๐ŸŒŸ
First Graduating Class โ€“ Management Information Systems, Mays Business School - Texas A&M University

We are proud to spotlight Bill Condon โ€™83, a member of the very first MIS graduating class at Texas A&M University. Billโ€™s journey reflects the strong foundation and lasting impact of the program from its earliest days.

Bill shared a memorable takeaway from his time in Mays:

โ€œI really enjoyed the Systems Design Overview class that I took my senior year. It was full Software Development Lifecycle process. The principles still apply today, regardless of the application development tools that we use.โ€

His reflection is a powerful reminder that while technology evolves, the core principles of effective systems design and SDLC remain timeless.

Thank you, Bill, for paving the way for future generations of MIS students and for representing Mays with excellence.
