Meet Eric Barnuevo ’26! Eric is an international student from the Philippines studying accounting!

“Leaving the Philippines to pursue my studies here in America was a massive transition, and Southern has provided the space for me to navigate a new culture and grow in my independence. Academically, my professors here have consistently encouraged me to excel, and my friends always push me and have my back. Additionally, resources like the Bloomberg Terminal, made available through the School of Business’s SMARRT Fund, have been a game-changer for my exposure to the finance world. Spiritually, being surrounded by people of the same faith has been so uplifting. Through Church activities like Vespers and LifeGroups, I’ve found a community that truly strengthens my walk with God.

My favorite memories are the simple ones I try never to overlook: eating lunch with friends, hanging out and studying with them, or having movie or game nights on the weekends. I also value the time spent walking down the Promenade between classes. It’s where you see familiar faces and meet people you don’t know yet! Those daily connections are what have made Southern feel like home, and they are the moments I will never forget.”

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dennis Schreiner on December 20, 2025, after a brave 15-month battle with cancer.

Dennis served as the director of Southern Adventist University’s Service Department for 23 years. He thoroughly enjoyed mentoring and joking with hundreds of students and crew that passed through his office over the many years.

For those who would like to join the family in celebrating his life, a service will be held on January 31, 2026, at 3:30 p.m. at Collegedale SDA Church.

Please continue to keep Dennis’s wife, Kathy, and family in your prayers. “I am the Resurrection and the Life,” said Jesus; “he who believes in me, even if he has died, he shall live.” (John 11:25). May we hold close the hope we have in Christ, who is the Resurrection and the Life, as we await His soon return.
