As we gear up for this Wednesday’s Green Career Network Happy Hour, we’re feeling a bit nostalgic about our last Minneapolis gathering. Back in November, more than 20 alums joined us to connect, share stories, and catch up—both professionally and personally. It was a great evening, and we’re hoping to recreate that energy this week. We’d love to see you at 56 Brewing!

This week, two CSB alums presented their work alongside Professor Corrie Grosse at the AESS: Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences!

Across both presentations, our alums showcased their findings and passion with the Environmental Studies community. Mahina Melim ’23, now an environmental educator and artist, shared research on Nez Perce leadership in solar energy. Brigid Mark ’20, currently finishing their PhD in sociology, presented on building collaborative research partnerships with Native communities.

Pictured above is a zine that Brigid Mark ’20 created and showcased during their presentation. In the second photo, Brigid Mark ’20, Dr. Corrie Grosse, Winona LaDuke, and others hold up a “W” sign for water protectors in Park Rapids, MN, highlighting Indigenous-led grassroots efforts.

Everyday is Earth Day... Kinda!

It's hard to believe that Earth Day, and Earth Week rather, was nearly two weeks ago! This year, the Environmental Studies and Sustainability Office at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University hosted two marquee events: A Earth Week Feature Film AND Keynote!

On Tuesday, April 21, we welcomed Charly Frisk and the Earth Week Film with The Great Northern to showcase their new documentary: Rooted -- Farming Tales from Minnesota's Farming Future. We had a great time reconnecting and hosting a wonderful Q&A!

Then, on Wednesday, April 22, we welcomed Douglas Wood as our Earth Day Keynote Performance! He rocked the mandolin, gave a rare reading of his hit book Old Turtle, and spoke about the environmental movement as a whole. It was incredibly inspiring!
