The mission of Southside College of Health Sciences is to provide quality health education programs to individuals in communities we serve. essary for practice in their chosen health discipline. The College promotes an environment that fosters individual learning and excellence in practice. Healthcare education today involves much more than the transfer of information and technical skills to the student. The faculty and staff of Southside College of Health Sciences are committed to providing a high quality environment which fosters student success through institutional integrity, ethical practices and a commitment to continuous improvement in the quality of teaching and learning. As an institution whose primary purpose is the education and development of individuals seeking to enter the healthcare field, the faculty and staff are also charged with and committed to protecting the health and wellbeing of the public by ensuring that their graduates are prepared to provide safe and effective care. The faculty also believes that education is a life-long, continuous process; one in which all must join together to improve the environment in which they live, work and learn.

Meet Mackenzie, SCHS’ new career advisor!

Mackenzie supports students with resume reviews, mock interviews, workplace concerns and connections with Bon Secours recruiters for opportunities while enrolled and after graduation.

Before joining SCHS, Mackenzie earned her Master of Social Work from VCU, worked as a mental health therapist and became a licensed clinical social worker. Now, she is bringing that same passion for helping people navigate important life transitions into her work with SCHS students.

“I hope to bring encouragement, connection and career-focused support that helps students thrive both during their time at SCHS and throughout their health care careers,” Mackenzie shared.

Outside of work, Mackenzie enjoys reading, baking, spending time with friends and family and keeping up with her cavalier spaniel and two cats. She is also interested in tattoos and keeps an ongoing list of ideas.

Southside College of Health Sciences has upcoming summer information sessions for prospective RAD and AASN/LPN-RN students. These sessions are a great opportunity to learn more about our programs, admissions process and the path that may be right for you.

Simulation Spotlight!!

The RHEI Clinical Simulation & Learning Center at Bon Secours supports learners across multiple campuses through high‑fidelity, virtual, and standardized patient simulation experiences. Each campus features a dedicated simulation hospital designed to mirror an inpatient care unit, with four simulation rooms that enhance realism and allow for multi‑patient scenarios and up to four simulations to be conducted simultaneously. The center also maintains a robust Standardized Patient program, with more than thirty trained SPs supporting a wide range of learning experiences. Initially accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) as a single site in 2021, the program has grown significantly and achieved full SSH accreditation as a multisite center in May 2026.

We’re also proud to have simulationists and leaders from the RHEI Clinical Simulation & Learning Center represented within the VASSA community and at the VASSA 2026 Conference as we continue advancing simulation education across Virginia together.

Congratulations to the newest inductees of Southside College of Health Sciences’ Alpha Epsilon Chapter of the OADN Alpha Delta Nu Nursing Honor Society.

This honor recognizes academic excellence among associate degree nursing students and encourages continued growth through advanced degrees, continuing education and lifelong professional development.

Today, we’re celebrating more than an induction. We’re celebrating the dedication, support and determination that brought these students to this moment.
