Congratulations to our winners from the Action Shots category of the 2026 Outdoor Education Photo contest! Thank you everyone for submitting your beautiful photos!! Read more about these photos below:

1st Place – Ethan Bost ’26 - Highball bouldering in Bishop, CA from March 2026. Pictured is my photograph of ‘A Little Life’ (V14), a notoriously difficult and proud climb established by Keenan Takahashi. I was able to capture my friend making the 3rd ascent of this boulder, which is 35 feet tall and sits at the apex of the Buttermilk Boulders. The most impressive ascent I have witnessed in the most beautiful climbing area I have been to.

2nd Place – Megan Riordan ’27 - Snorkeling at Kicker Rock in the Galapagos. April 2026.

3rd Place – Alexis Hunt ’29 - Gabe hikes up the great sand dunes.

Honorable Mention – Rex Karjian ’26 - While rafting the Grand Canyon last summer, everyone in the group was nervously anticipating Lava Falls, which is the highest-rated rapid on the river. The sheer amount of water makes the rapid daunting and dangerous, with precision being crucial if you want to keep your raft upright. One of my group’s rafts, however, was unable to stay right side up, and I captured this photo from a cliff above. Everyone in the raft was ok, but it was a great lesson, story, and photo that came from it!

Honorable Mention – Rex Karjian ’26 - One of the most famous rapids on the Grand Canyon is Hermit Crab, a string of huge, daunting waves that require strong rowing skills to maneuver. This photo highlights the sheer size of the waves, as they almost completely engulfed our 18-foot rafts.

1st Place – Jackson Bonser ’29 - My good friend, who is pictured here, was visiting Colorado from Spain and we took him down to the Sand Dunes to camp for a couple of nights. This was the first time he has been to the Great Sand Dunes and it was all of our first times sand sledding. This photo captures him mid crash on the side of the dunes.

2nd Place - Alexis Hunt ’29 - This photo was taken on a FOOT trip in 2025 in Labyrinth Canyon Utah.

3rd Place – Dori Mitchell (Alum) - The adventurous spirit of a Tiger never stops growing. Carol Phelps ‘69 taking a 43-meter (141-foot) leap over the Kawarau River during a Feb. 2026 Tiger Travel Trip to New Zealand.

Honorable Mention – Rebecca Willner ’26 - This image was taken of the Badlands in South Dakota, where I spent the summer conducting chemistry research at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.

Honorable Mention – Alexis Hunt ’29 - This photo was taken at Ruby Ranch during my first Outdoor Ed trip. It was taken by me (Alexis) and Tomas (featured in photo).

Congratulations to our winners from the Sense of Place category of the 2026 Outdoor Education Photo contest! Thank you everyone for submitting your beautiful photos!! Read more about these photos below:

1st Place – Jackson Bonser ’29 - It’s not every day you see a moose. It’s not every week you see multiple. And it’s not every month you see a family of them, but that’s what I saw one day a year and a half ago in the woods of Rocky Mountain National Park. As far as I could tell, there was one mother and two adolescents. One of the adolescents, depicted on the top half of the image, only had antlers on one side.

2nd Place – Lily Wright ’28 - This photo was taken in Grand Teton National Park on a mid September day. On our way back to campus, a friend and I came across this view. The Tetons are picturesque already, but as the morning sun rose behind me, a horse wandered across the pasture, creating a portrait of the Rocky Mountain west.

3rd Place – Megan Riordan ‘ 27 - We were surprised with snow as we rafted the Rio Chama in New Mexico with CC Outdoor Education, April 2025.

Honorable Mention – Ethan Bost ’26 - Great Sand Dunes National Park from April 2026 - Dunes at nightfall. Great Sand Dunes is one of the most unique and beautiful features of the San Luis Valley, Colorado, and the southwest as a whole. My first time going in my final block break of college

Honorable Mention – Alexis Hunt ’29 - This photo was taken right below the summit of Mt. Columbia during sunrise.

Honorable Mention - Avery Rubins ’27 - Segment 25 of the Colorado Trail, deep in the San Juan mountains in late July 2025.

Congratulations to our winners from the Education in Action category of the 2026 Outdoor Education Photo contest! Thank you everyone for submitting your beautiful photos!! Read more about these photos below:

1st Place – Megan Riordan ’27 - Snorkeling in April in Darwin’s Bay, San Cristóbal, Ecuador for Dr. Minervini’s course, Voice and the Nonhuman. Zach Hindle ‘28 observes a sea turtle

2nd Place – Linden Liu ’29 - We stood beneath thousands-year-old Native American rock paintings, trying to glimpse the mysteries of history through the traces that remain. Utah fall break camping featuring Addie Langworthy, Addison, Rosa Ricketson, Luisa Digiano & Kris (2029)

3rd Place – Lily Wright ’28 - This photo was taken during the Block 6 Ecology and the Environment course in Costa Rica. Here, Orlando, a botanist at La Selva Biological Research Station, creates a broom in the jungle from leaves, a branch, and a root. Learning about the natural history of this reserve helped me understand the importance of conservation and restoration in this diverse jungle.

Honorable Mention – Rebecca Willner ’26 - Here is an image of a brain hot air balloon taken on my first trip to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. I learned a lot about New Mexico history and culture through this experience.

Honorable Mention – Megan Riordan ’27 - Students observe an aspen tree for mountain lion tracks in Woodland Park, Colorado, October 2024.

Camping in Guadalupe National Park 🏜️
OE’s trip to Guadalupe National Park was an absolute banger! We explored both Guadalupe Mountains National Park and Carlsbad Caverns National Park.
