Hello fellow gaming fans and season’s greetings from the UCCS SPLAT Club!
2012 is almost a wrap, and although the apocalypse didn’t happen quite as planned, the year did play witness to the end of an era. Students Pushing the Limits of Advanced Technologies, one of the longest running student clubs in UCCS history, closed up shop this year and went on hiatus. This came as sad news for many of our hardcore members, but the writing as they say, was on the wall, as student involvement in SPLAT had steadily lessened and other student gaming clubs sprouted and grew.
Over the years we saw the culture and technology behind PC and Console gaming evolve and mature, with LAN parties becoming a global phenomenon backed by industry leaders and corporate sponsors, but through it all the SPLAT club tried to keep its LAN parties a fun, free, family affair; festive gatherings thrown by gamers for gamers. I’m proud to have been involved for all these years and for all of the great memories and lasting friendships that came from many a SPLAT Fest, and as such I want to extend my sincerest thanks and gratitude to everyone who’s ever attended or been involved in one of our LAN parties.
But now, as I wipe the tears from my eyes and remaining Quake giblets off my keyboard, I’d like to turn your attention to the future, as LAN parties in Colorado are still alive and well, and getting stronger than ever. Proof of point is the upcoming 2-day LAN party being hosted next month right here in Colorado Springs by the Altitude Gaming League!
