As the co-founder of Start Right Foods, former Mizzou Tigers football player Clint Matthews believes the grit, discipline and persistence needed on the football field has proven to be invaluable for his business success.

Clint and his business partner Kyle Rood, another former Mizzou student-athlete, have watched their high-protein breakfast food company grow from a couple of waffle irons and a rent-a-kitchen in Columbia to its current facility in St. Louis.

Did you know? Autistm traits are often missed or ignored in women because they tend to mask their autistic traits more than males in an attempt to fit in.

Just like males, autistic women can struggle socially and have difficulty catching on to others intentions and reading social cues. Higher societal expectations placed on women to be socially aware mean they are more likely to mask their symptoms and as a result of this pressure, often get diagnosed with anxiety or depression.

In this conversational event, learn more about this research and hear from autistic women who have found strategies that enable them to be their authentic selves.

The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is partnering with the Office of Inclusion, Diversity & Equity to host a series of speaker panels focused on raising awareness of neurodiversity in entrepreneurship.

In this first one, Department of Psychological Sciences PhD student Courtney Jorgenson Bernardin will share her research on how and why autistic females attempt to mask or hide their autistic traits more than males and why, because of this, autistic women are “hiding in plain sight”.

In future panels we will discuss the benefits of being neurodivergent for entrepreneurship, and how we can create a more inclusive environment at Mizzou for neurodivergent students, staff, and faculty.
