Poultry Production is one of the many production courses offered in the Animal Sciences curriculum. Over the course of the semester, students experience the broiler production system from start to finish. Students are responsible for managing their birds from their first day of life until processing day when students turn their hard work into a delicious product. After processing their birds, students have the opportunity to visit the Tyson poultry processing facility in Sedalia to understand the impressive amount of product moved on a daily basis in the industry. Students wrap up the semester presenting their capstone projects while enjoying their University-raised chicken. The opportunity to work with live birds at each stage of life gives these students insight and valuable hands-on experience in each step of the industry.

Animal Sciences week was a blast for both students and faculty/staff! Throughout the week, animal sciences folks engaged with events and activities to celebrate the end of the academic year.

On Monday, there were donuts in the lobby start off the week with a sweet breakfast.

On Tuesday, students tie dyed white Animal Sciences shirts.

On Wednesday, students got revenge on their professors with a pie to the face!

On Thursday, there was some friendly competition with trivia night and a group of professors won trivia.

On Friday, the awards banquet was held to celebrate student success throughout the year.

Animal Sciences Week gave everyone a chance to celebrate the hard work and accomplishments of employees and students within the division. A special thank you to the Animal Sciences Representatives for hosting the events and to the professors that participated!

Animal Sciences students in Physiology of Domestic Animals I recently dissected a sheep brain. 🧠🐑

The students examined each section of the brain and made connections to the role and function of the section, something that they learned in the lecture portion of the class.

Physiology of Domestic Animals I includes a lab section that has various dissections throughout the semester. These dissections are hands-on experiences that allow students to better understand the course content and apply it in practice.

At the American Statistical Association (ASA) DataFest, the team called "Animal Scientists" received runner up for Best Use of Statistical Analysis. 🏆

The group consisted of (from left to right in the first image) Gwendolyn Overholt, Rachel Hanenkratt, Khadicha Nurakhmedova, and Anthony Gandolfo. Anthony, Gwendolyn, and Rachel are animal sciences majors and Khadicha majors in economics.

The group was supported by Dr. Daley, Assistant Professor in Dairy Nutrition & Modeling. They worked with data analysis on the dairy farm before competing in the 2026 ASA DataFest.

This recognition is one of three awards that the competition gives out and reflects the strong data analysis skills of the group. The competition consists of data evaluation, analysis, and a presentation design to a panel of judges.

Congratulations to the "Animal Scientists!" 🎉

Meet Kloe L'Heureux, a senior Animal Sciences representative ⭐

Kloe wanted to be a representative because she loves sharing her passion for agriculture and helping prospective students. She loves connecting with students, answering questions, and showing them what makes Mizzou special.

Her favorite part about Mizzou Animal Sciences is the strong sense of community. The faculty, staff, and students are always willing to help one another. There are so many hand-on opportunities within the division that allow you to gain real world experience and prepare you for a future career.

Kloes's future goals are to pursue a career in production medicine or advanced reproduction as a veterinarian. She wants to work closely with producers to improve animal health care, reproduction, and herd management.
