🏆 Congratulations to the more than 200 graduates who were honored at Commencement on Tuesday!
2026 commencement speakers included:
Jay Gladden, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, IU Indianapolis
Reinhold Hill, Vice Chancellor and Dean, IU Columbus
Yasmin Vargas, IU Columbus Student Advisory Council Chair
Charlie Kramer, graduating student and Chancellor’s Scholar
Ashtyn Robinson, graduating student in the Mental Health Counseling master’s degree program, sang the national anthem.
Yasmin Vargas, IU Columbus Student Advisory Council Chair, told the graduates, “What you have earned today is more than just a degree. It represents the effort you invested, the knowledge you gained, and the determination that brought you to this very moment.”
IU Columbus Vice Chancellor and Dean Reinhold Hill recognized those who stood by and assisted the graduates during their journey, including faculty and staff, as well as the students’ families, loved ones and friends.
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor of IU Indianapolis Jay Gladden delivered the keynote address. Congratulating the Class of 2026, he reminded graduates that this milestone is only the beginning of their story, and the resilience they’ve demonstrated will serve them well in the future. “You earned your seat here today, every single one of you,” Gladden said. “And you leave here today with something that no one can take away from you: an Indiana University degree.”
This year’s commencement celebration ceremony honored 213 students, representing 12 undergraduate degree pathways and two graduate programs. Those honored on May 12 completed their coursework in December 2025 or are expected to complete their programs in May or August 2026.
Seven students were recognized as 2026 Honors Program Scholars: LaShawnda Kirk, Carlie Morrill, Hiley Obermeyer, Jean Berber Souberbielle, Faith Sumpter, Kelsey Wischmeier and Ashlynn York.
