The Ohio State University Department of Astronomy This is the official page for The Ohio State University Department of Astronomy.

Astronomy is the study of the origins, physics, and evolution of planets, stars, galaxies, and the universe as a whole. The principal pursuits of the astronomer are to extend our understanding of the physical nature of the universe and to convey this understanding to students and the general public. Ohio State astronomers are engaged in research in a number of forefront areas, including searches f

or planets around other stars, gravitational lensing, the evolution of stars and galaxies, supermassive black holes, clusters of galaxies, the large-scale structure of the Universe, and the origin of the chemical elements in stars and the Big Bang.

Please join the Friends of OSU Astronomy on October 26 for "Cosmology with the DESI Survey". We will have some short talks from DESI scientists here at OSU, get a guided tour of the planetarium show "5000 Eyes: Mapping the Universe with DESI" from its director, Claire Lamann, and enjoy lunch and conversation with members of the Department of Astronomy and the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics.

For more info and to reserve your spot for this free event:

The Department of Astronomy at Ohio State, is delighted to invite you to our fall FOSAA event, all about the DESI cosmology survey. DESI, the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument survey, is changing the way we think about dark energy. Ohio State is a key player in this survey, from building instrume...
