🐝 Bees play a critical role in global food production, pollinating many of the crops that sustain our food systems. However, pollinator populations face growing threats, from pests and disease to habitat loss and environmental stress.
Across the country, land-grant universities are developing practical, science-based solutions to protect bee health and support the communities that depend on them.

Here’s how:
🔷 WSU College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences researchers are improving bee nutrition through forage mapping and supplemental diet studies that support stronger colony growth.
🔷 Ohio State - College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences scientists are protecting hundreds of bee species by advancing conservation strategies, reducing pesticide exposure, and improving both urban and agricultural habitats.
🔷 College of Agriculture at Auburn University researchers are helping beekeepers better monitor and manage destructive Varroa mites while preparing for emerging pest threats.
🔷 UAF Cooperative Extension Service responded rapidly to the state’s first detection of the small hive beetle, equipping beekeepers with tools to contain and eliminate the pest.
🔷 Michigan State University Extension delivers statewide training and conferences to help beekeepers apply the latest research to improve colony health and pest management.
🔷 Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences engages community scientists to identify and collect bee species, expanding biodiversity data and strengthening public involvement in conservation.
