In II Corinthians, chapter I, Paul states that all Christians are to be involved in the comforting or care giving ministry. Christians are to come alongside one another to give care and assistance. Counseling can be both a discipleship and healing mininstry for the Body of Christ, and a community outreach designed to help those suffering with emotional, mental, behavioral or relational problems. When the church ministers from the heart of compassion to someone with a troubled child, teenager, problem marriage, or who suffer from depression, fear or anxiety, open doors to minister the Gospel of Jesus Christ to many will be the result.

There are many needs that can be addressed through counseling when properly understood. Most Christians know people who, in spite of their desire to follow Christ with all of their hearts, struggle with life emotionally, behaviorally, and/or spiritually. Their view of themselves, God and the world is skewed, resulting in discomfort or disease. Those in need deserve care, and the church properly equipped is positioned and commissioned to care for the 'least of these." Every believer can be a part of supplying the need for care and comfort.
