all at the heart of The Ohio State University’s Arts District, ACCAD is a creative hub for scholars and practitioners of digital arts and sciences. ACCAD functions as an applied collaboratory for time-based digital media production, both in furthering the excellence of its faculty and graduate students in residence and cultivating its own innovative research agenda clustering around animation and interactive media. Our work unfolds in a generous physical space, complemented by specialized and flexible studios for animation, motion capture, interactive design, media production and mediated performance design. ACCAD’s collaborative partnerships include a wide interdisciplinary range of campus disciplines and external relationships.

At ACCAD, Design MFA Candidate and Graduate Research Associate Yeoleum Choi is redefining the technical blueprint for educational media.

In her project *Layers In History*, Choi investigates how "visual charm" can lower cognitive barriers to complex science. Her innovation lies in a hybrid workflow: utilizing generative AI as a conceptual compass for organic textures, then translating that grit into a high-precision 3D environment via traditional matte painting.

The result? A subterranean field trip where deep geological memory becomes a tactile, lived experience.

History is rarely a single, clean narrative; it is a dense, shifting accumulation of artifacts and memories. In Layers In History, Yeoleum Choi, a second-year MFA student in the Department of Design’s Digital Animation and Interactive Media (DAIM) track, uses motion design to set the past into viv...

The 2025 ACCAD Open House took place on Friday, April 11th, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, welcoming visitors from across the university and local community into one of the world’s first computer graphics centers. Guests explored our open labs, interacted with cutting-edge projects, and connected with the vibrant network of graduate students, faculty, and staff that make up ACCAD’s interdisciplinary community.

This year’s event featured a wide range of innovative work, including immersive planetarium media, 3D scanning applications, motion capture research, and both digital and analog game design. Attendees experienced virtual reality storytelling, interactive installations, immersive audio, and animations created by undergraduate and graduate students. Each project reflected the Center’s commitment to experimentation, collaboration, and pushing the boundaries of creative technology.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to making the event such a success. The Open House is always a highlight of the year—a moment to celebrate ACCAD’s ever-evolving landscape of research and design. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2026 for another exciting glimpse into the future of creative computation.
