🚨Nursing Student Spotlight🚨

Balancing a demanding nursing program while making a meaningful impact in the community is no small feat—but Kasey Bennett and Michelle Brumfield are doing just that.

As sophomore students in Capital University’s School of Nursing, both Kasey and Michelle also serve on the executive board of Alpha Sigma Alpha, a sorority deeply rooted in philanthropy and service. From organizing donations for the Special Olympics to visiting local schools—they are constantly giving back.

Their involvement doesn’t stop there. Between sorority commitments that can take up to 10 hours each week and a rigorous academic schedule, both also dedicate time to working at OhioHealth. Their ability to juggle it all speaks volumes about their passion, discipline, and heart for helping others.

With nearly one-third of Alpha Sigma Alpha’s members pursuing nursing, it’s clear this group shares a strong commitment to care, compassion, and community.

Kasey and Michelle exemplify what it means to lead, serve, and succeed—both in and out of the classroom. We can't wait to see what these two students accomplish both at Capital and beyond.

So proud of our Nursing 110 students for making a difference beyond the classroom! 💙☄️

Students recently partnered with the National Marrow Donor Program to help recruit potential stem cell and marrow donors.

Through education, outreach, and advocacy, our students:
🩺 Raised awareness about the importance of donor registration
🤝 Engaged peers and community members in meaningful conversations
❤️ Helped individuals take the first step toward potentially saving a life

This hands-on experience reflects our commitment to service, leadership, and improving health outcomes in our communities. We’re incredibly proud of our future nurses for stepping up and supporting such a life-changing mission.

Today we want to celebrate Capital University Alumni Melissa Miller! Melissa was recently honored with the Buckeye Health Unsung Hero Award, recognizing individuals who make a meaningful difference in the health of Ohioans.

Melissa leads health and wellness groups at Community Refugee & Immigration Services (CRIS) that center connection, creativity, and healing. From art, sewing, and jewelry-making to dance and nature-based groups, each gathering is designed to reduce isolation and help clients regulate stress and trauma—often without ever using stigmatized terms like “mental health.”

When asked about her time at Capital, Melissa had this to say:
"Capital University laid the foundation for the nurse I am today. Through their emphasis on clinical excellence, compassionate care, and advocacy for the vulnerable, I learned that true impact often happens quietly and behind the scenes. The education and values they instilled in me prepared me to serve with humility and integrity."

Congratulations Melissa! We are thrilled to bring light to the important work you do and help highlight your achievements.
