Capital University Certified Peer Educators

Capital University Certified Peer Educators Capital University’s Center for Health and Wellness (CHW) has established a Certified Peer Educator student organization.

Peer educators are trained to work with the CHW to provide health awareness workshops and events on campus. Workshop and event themes often are related to issues of alcohol & drugs, academics, diversity, gender, health & wellness, relationships, body image, and violence prevention, among others. Peer Educators serve as a resource and referral service for the campus community, as well as take part

in many campus-wide events. Peer Educators create and develop educational materials such as posters, pamphlets, flyers and bulletin boards addressing and promoting health awareness. Peer educators, because of their own healthy choices and willingness to talk about and role model them with others, help create positive social norms and the foundation of critical mass supporting health campus environments. Peer education is student leadership, activism, and service at its best. Putting the health and safety of others and the community on an equal value with personal health and safety is the “student development theory” that we hope all of our students achieve.
