Our next congratulations are owed to Tristen Gulasa!

Tristen will be graduating as a double major in WGSS and Journalism. While at Ohio State, Tristen contributed to the Lantern as a student writer. She also provided immense support for the Free Beer Tomorrow documentary project Free Beer Tomorrow

Tristen’s research aims to trouble essentialist ideas of le***anism by analyzing the erotica magazine “On Our Backs.” They theorize the space of le***an limbo as expansive across gender and desire, challenging rigidity and prioritizing community pleasure.

Congratulations again!!

Shout out to Adrienne Gladish, our next outstanding graduating WGSS student. Adrienne is currently a staff member at Ohio State, working as the manager of Receiving and Shipping at the Ohio Union.

Related to her research, she also advises the student organization, Unchained OSU, which educated and spreads awareness on the issue of human trafficking across the globe.

In Adrienne’s own words, “My research is at the intersection of s*x trafficking in contrast to s*x work, the Nordic Model, and the federal and state laws that regulate s*x.”

Congratulations for your hard work!

Today we will be spotlighting Katie Johnson, another WGSS student graduating this Spring!

Katie helped found Ace Space, a student organization dedicated to fostering community for a-spec identities, while on campus. They had the chance to reflect on the importance of a-spec representation as a moderator of the first annual WGSS Love Club this year!

Their timely research revolves around the importance of preserving LGBTQ+ archives and making them more sustainable.

Congratulations Katie!

On the afternoon of April 28th, WGSS hosted its Annual Spring Reception and Undergraduate Research Symposium. The event kicked off with eight WGSS undergraduate students presenting on their research projects.

The projects were developed under the guidance of WGSS faculty and co-instructors, Dr. Jian Neo Chen and Dr. Shannon Winnubst of the WGSST 4574/4575 capstone course, as well as an additional student who engaged in research with the mentorship of Dr. Bayan Abusneineh.

An intermission and poster session followed, where students, faculty, and staff mingled and further discussed their research.

WGSS Department Chair, Dr. Mytheli Sreenivas shared a welcome message to open our spring reception programming. Updates were shared from FREE Center, The Ohio Prison Education Exchange Project (OPEEP), Triota, and the LGBTQ+ Healthcare Certificate. We then congratulated our 2026 award and grant recipients, which included thirteen undergraduate and graduate students and totaled over $13,000 in funding support! We also recognized our 2026 graduating students, including undergraduate majors, MA, and PhD students.

Finally, we concluded with a special celebration to congratulate long-time WGSS faculty member, Dr. Linda Mizejewski . WGSS faculty shared stories and anecdotes about her character, as well as her contributions to the WGSS department and field. Of course, Dr. Mizejewski herself shared some closing inspirational remarks to demonstrate her gratitude as her career transitions to retirement and she leaves behind an impressive legacy.

This is just the first post of many to come as we commemorate our phenomenal community at the close of the 2025-2026 academic year.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, graduating students, faculty, and staff for this year’s accomplishments!

Today we recognize trans, nonbinary, two-spirit individuals, people questioning their identity, and anyone on the gender spectrum, and the ongoing fight for their rights. Transgender rights are human rights!

4. Support trans businesses and creators
5. Follow, share, center, and amplify trans voices
