TD Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative

A TD Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative, also known as Sustain Coastal, is committed to transform Coastal Carolina University into an environmentally sustainable university through campus operations, student curriculum, engaging students through learning and outreach, and collaboration in the community through sustainable stewardship of resources. Established in 2005, Sustain Coastal c

oordinates sustainable projects and programs on campus and in the community, including recycling, water refill stations, waste reduction, conservation, alternative transportation, as well as campus events such as the Farmers Markets, Sustainability Fair, Landfill on the Lawn, Celebrate the Earth and Campus Salvage. The office manages the Eco-Rep Leaders, the Student Green Team and serves as an advisor to the Students for Environmental Awareness club.

CCU’s Campus Salvage program continues to turn move-out waste into meaningful change—diverting more than 31,000 pounds of materials from the landfill, supporting local nonprofits, and reinvesting in campus sustainability initiatives.

From record-breaking funds raised to stronger community partnerships, this program shows what’s possible when we rethink waste and work together.

From April 27 to May 9, the Campus Salvage donation PODs located around main campus & University Place will be open for donations.

What CAN be donated:

✔️ Clothing, shoes, & accessories
✔️ Unopened non-perishable food items
✔️ Paper products
✔️ Unused personal care & hygiene products
✔️ Office & school supplies
✔️ Furniture, bedding, & towels
✔️ Lamps, room decor, storage bins, & shelving
✔️ Small appliances
✔️ Clean dishes, cutlery, & kitchen items
✔️ Brooms, vacuums, & cleaning supplies

What CAN’T be donated:

❌ Mattress toppers
❌ All opened food items
❌ Stained or soiled clothing, sheets, or towels
❌ All socks & undergarments
