The Last Success Story!

Ben Skwierawski | BFA Acting’28
Wisconsin Classic Stage

BFA Acting student Ben Skwierawski performed as Osvald Alving in an outdoor production of Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts. Ben collaborated with the director throughout the project’s development, from its early conception during the winter to its full production.

Originally staged with an elaborate set in an outdoor parking-lot venue, the production moved indoors during its second weekend because of smoke from Canadian wildfires - giving the company an unexpected lesson in adaptability.

Since launching this series in 2023, CCU Theatre has connected with more than 7,500 local students by providing engaging, educational, and inspiring theatrical experiences through our matinee performances. This year, Assistant Professor Tyne Turner ([email protected]) will be coordinating the Student Matinee Series and serving as the primary contact for schools interested in attending performances with CCU Theatre.

🎭 CCU Theatre was proud to be represented at the 2026 American Alliance for Theatre and Education (AATE) National Conference in Greenville, SC! 🎭

Steven Higginbotham, Ben Sota, and Cynthia Grace Robinson presented a special panel session entitled Echoes of Place, Futures in Motion: Theatre Resonating with Community, highlighting the dynamic community connections and impacts of CCU Theatre's productions of The Black Pearl, Stories That Soar!, E.A.R.T.H. Festival, and Putt Putt in Horry County and beyond.

In addition, the national company of Literacy Connects' Stories That Soar! was selected to perform at the conference, and our collaborators asked Kenzie Ice (BFA Acting ’27), Annie Blalock (BFA Musical Theatre ’29), and Cam Klepper (BFA Acting '28), along with Professors Steven Higginbotham and Ben Sota, to perform alongside company members Cyndi LaFrese, Dallas Thomas, and Zuleyl Castro. They brought to life stories from Arizona, South Carolina, and directly from the conference!

Congratulations to our students, faculty, and partners for this national recognition and for showcasing the transformative powers of theatre and education in our communities! ✨
