Two of our own are reading downtown!

Dr. Jennie Case and Prof. Acie Clark are heading to The Secret Nook Coffee & Books on Tuesday, September 15 at 5pm for a joint reading and book signing!

Dr. Case will read from The Carework Project: Reckoning with Love, Labor, and the Living World, which explores the idea that “care work is climate work,” connecting domestic, personal and ecological care.

Prof. Clark will read from Small Talk, his debut poetry collection and winner of the New Southern Voices Poetry Prize. This collection believes in multiplicities, in the seemingly contradicting identities that make us who we are, and that talking to each other might still save us.

Head to Little Rock on Thursday evening (9/10) at 6:30pm to hear Prof. Acie Clark read from his new book, alongside writer Sammy Mack as part of the Zeitgeist Reading Series! Arrive early if you want to order food & drinks!

(Prof. Clark will be reading in Conway on Tueday, 9/15 if you can't make it to LR.)

Exciting News! Dr. Jennifer Case will be featured with an art show at this week's downtown Conway Art Walk on Friday, 9/4 from 5pm - 8pm!

Artwork you ask? Yes! Did you know that not only is Dr. Case a brilliant CNF author but that she is also an amazing artist too? In fact her new book, The Carework Project, just out from Trinity University Press is filled with her amazing collages. Those collages will be on display Friday night in the Nabholz Room of The Studio Downtown (1100 Oak Street).

Art Walk is always a fun time, and I hope we'll see you there to help support & celebrate our own amazing Dr. Case!

Hey, creative writers at UCA, did you know you can study abroad in England and take equivalent CRWR courses (not ENGL courses)?! You can at Edge Hill University! Email Prof. Longhorn to set up a meeting for more information. DEADLINE to travel abroad in Spring 2027 = Sept. 15th!

The UCA Creative Writing Club will meet on Thursday, September 3, 2026 in WTH 104 at X-Period (1:40 - 2:30pm). Anyone from UCA (undergraduate or graduate students) interested in creative writing is welcome regardless of major or minor!

Find Creative Writing Club as an RSO in Club Connect (via MyUCA) and become a member there to stay in touch. Questions can be sent to President Lia Ureta ([email protected]).

The Vortex is hiring for the 2026-2027 school year! UCA’s undergraduate literary and art magazine is bringing on paid staff and volunteer readers for our poetry, fiction, nonfiction, script, and art sections! We are also hiring for layout and social media/marketing positions!
