The Bartos family welcomes UCA alumni to celebrate the life of Phil Bartos this Saturday, May 16. Phil served as a UCA marketing professor, mentored countless students, and impacted the UCA community from 1994 to 2015 - only part of his impact on individuals around the world. Those who remember Phil with respect and affection are invited to attend his celebration-of-life service in Little Rock this weekend. At its recent Outstanding Student Awards Banquet, the UCA College of Business announced and celebrated our Outstanding Students selected for the 2025-2026 academic year. The awards given celebrate students who stood out for their academic performance or their service to student organizations. The following students were selected because they have optimized their education by combining exemplary academic performance with internships, volunteerism, professional development, experiential education, and participation in clubs and other important experiences. Help me congratulate Professor Ashley Phillips, UCA Associate Professor of Accounting, who was recognized by UCA for excellence in public service. This recognition is largely for her work with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance but includes great work she does with other organizations as well. Through VITA in partnership with United Way of Central Arkansas, Ashley impacts the lives of low income taxpayers in our community and the professional trajectory of UCA students who are the preparers in this service-learning model. This year they had an impact of over $500,000 in refunds and no preparer fees as they prepared 455 federal returns (+ the state ones too).

Also, Ashley is the first COB faculty to win a university level excellence award (we think). Congratulations Ashley!!
