Candidates who complete this curriculum will be well prepared for future graduate study at the doctoral level. The Certificate in Online Teaching and Training is a 12 credit 100 percent online graduate program that provides opportunities for educators and trainers to develop advanced competencies in designing, developing, delivering and managing online learning and performance improvement in education, business, government, healthcare, military and other professions. Undergraduate

The Certificate in Instructional Technology is a 9 credit 100 percent online or hybrid undergraduate certificate program that provides students with opportunities to develop essential skills that leverage technology to improve learning in educational settings. This non-licensure certificate from the college fulfills some undergraduate Core Curriculum and pre-professional education program requirements.

The Online Learning Consortium is accepting interns who are earning degrees or certifications as Instructional Designers or Technologists. They have a range of projects and they can align with course-credit regulations at Coastal to ensure that completed work earns credit! It is an unpaid position, and applications are being accepted in May 2026.

Finishing off our introduction of the team!

Avery Guilmain is the Graduate Assistant for our Instructional Technology team. Avery recently graduated from Coastal Carolina with her Bachelor's in English, and is currently attending the Master's of Arts in Teaching program here. This semester she has aided a few of our team members with their articles, and she even taught one of Michael McKenzie's lessons in his classes! In her free time, you can find Avery working at a restaurant on the beach, or enjoying a new book on her balcony with her two cats!

Here's another member of our Instructional Technology team!

Dr. Winslow is a professor of Instructional Technology. He previously served as Director of the Coastal Office of Online Learning (COOL) and prior to that was a Department Chair and Program Coordinator for the College of Education and Social Sciences. His current research interests include user experience (UX) / learning interaction design, multimedia learning object design, and their impacts on learner cognition and performance. He has co-authored a textbook, Applied Technologies for Teachers, as well as numerous Instructional Technology professional journal articles. Off campus, Dr. Winslow is an avid surfer, windsurfer and fisherman.

Introducing another member of the Instructional Technology Team!

Marvin is an Assistant Professor of Instructional Technology in the Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences. Marvin earned a Ph.D. in Educational Studies specializing in learning technologies and educational psychology, an interdisciplinary specialization in Quantitative Research Methods, and a Master in Learning Technologies from The Ohio State University (OSU). Before OSU, Dr. Evans completed an MSc and BEd in Computer Science, and taught mathematics and computer science to grades 7-13. He served as an External Examiner for Computer Science with the Caribbean Examination Council, and he is CCU's representative on the new SC AI K-12 panel. His research interests include classroom technology integration, instructional design, teacher professional and curriculum development, computer science education, online learning, and teacher training, especially in underserved contexts and environments. When not teaching, Dr Evans is seeking the next place to travel and explore new areas and spaces.
