ATTENTION PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THEATRE:
Theatre artists Matt Bassett and Tia Shearer will be meeting with students interested in pursuing careers in the theatre. Matt and Tia have been working for many years in the theatre and are looking forward to sharing their experiences with interested students. Matt Bassett (TTU class of '03 - BA English, minor Theatre) is the Associate Artistic Director of The Hub Theatre, Chair of Acting at Metropolitan School of the Arts and a Helen-Hayes-Award nominated freelance director in the Washington, DC area. Directing credits include The Hub, Arts on the Horizon (with whom he has created multiple world premieres), Flying V Theatre, Imagination Stage, Compass Rose Theatre and multiple university and educational productions. Performance credits include Ford's Theatre, The Hub, Clarence Brown Theatre, Nashville Shakespeare Festival and the Virginia Shakespeare Festival as well as multiple films, industrials and television projects. He is also a voice artist with Graphic Audio. Matt holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and lives outside Washington, DC with his family.
Tia Shearer has been a member of Actors Equity Association since 2005. She has performed with Second City, Baltimore Center Stage, and The Kennedy Center Theatre for Young Audiences (including two national tours) to name a few. She also creates nonverbal theatre for ages 0-6, often with her husband, Matt Bassett, and is known for multi-character roles and physical work.
