Here are this week's problems of the week:

As you probably guessed, we're changing our plans for tomorrow's picnic because of the weather. Instead of being at the park, we'll have an "indoor picnic" in the cafeteria on campus. I still hope you can join us! Please spread the word!

This year's Math+ Alumni Day is scheduled for Wednesday, April 27. We'll have the alumni panel discussion in B203 from 3 to 4. We're planning on having a picnic at Lion's C**n Creek Park from 4 to 6. I hope you can join us! Please spread the word!

03/27/2015

Please let me know if you can participate in the panel discussion and/or if you think you'll be able to stop by at the picnic.

Math Alumni Day is less than 2 weeks away now. On Wednesday, April 30th, we'll have our annual alumni panel discussion at 3:00. We'll follow that up with a picnic (I hope!) at Lions C**n Creek Park. Please plan on joining us for the panel, the picnic, or both!

Here are two important upcoming dates:

Wednesday, March 26: STEM Chicks Panel Discussion (STEM Chicks is a new club on campus that is dedicated to supporting women who want to go into STEM fields)
Let me know if you're interested in participating!

Here's the new Problem of the Week:
A circle of radius 2 and center E is inscribed inside square ABCD. Find the area that is inside that triangle with vertices at A, B, and E, but outside of the circle.

Bonus question: If the square is inscribed in the circle, find the area outside of the triangle but inside the circle.

Here is this week's Problem of the Week:
Airport runways are labeled by two numbers giving the nonnegative clockwise angles less than 360 degrees of the runway's direction measured from north to the nearest 10 degrees, divided by 10. Thus a runway with heading 223 degrees is labeled 22. What is the other number on this runway?

Here's the next Problem of the Week:
A student committee must consist of 2 seniors and 3 juniors. Five seniors are available to serve on the committee. What is the least number of junior volunteers needed if the selectors want at least 600 different possible ways to pick the committee?
