The Cooperstown Graduate Association would like to invite you to join us on Friday, May 1st from 9:30 am to 12:00 pm as we listen to a fascinating seminar by Deborah Schwartz, former Director of the Brooklyn Historical Society and CGP alumna and her husband David Tykulsker, an Employee Rights Attorney for New Jersey and New York. In this seminar Deb and David will lead us on a fascinating discussion on the relationship between museums and labor unions.

Join us for an evening with Dr. Ellen McHale, the 2026 Bruce Buckley Scholar! 🎓

On Thursday, April 23 at 7:00pm, Dr. McHale will present “Voices from the Racetrack: A Study of America’s Thoroughbred Racing Industry” at the Cooperstown Graduate Program. This event is free and open to the public. CGP alumni are also invited to join via Zoom! 🏇🐴

A celebrated folklorist and current Executive Director of New York Folklore, Dr. McHale will explore the occupational lives and lore of American thoroughbred racetrack workers. This free event honors the legacy of folklorist Bruce Buckley while celebrating the many ways folk culture shapes our world. We hope to see you there! The Cooperstown Community Classroom is back this week with a lecture hosted by Oneonta’s Dr. Nicole de Silva! Join us as Dr. de Silva discusses how women at Cornell's New York State College of Home Economics (NYSCHE) helped to transform the discipline of home economics into a rigorous, globally-minded social science. 👨‍🍳🍳

This lecture is the first installation of a two-part series: “Women at the New York State College of Home Economics and the Making of Modern Food Aid.” It will explore the founding of NYSCHE in 1907 and the development of the college's global consciousness up until the start of World War II. Do you know how to build a museum? 🏗️

Two weeks ago, three second year students from The Cooperstown Graduate Program, Gabriela Paixao e Kelly, Maria Altier and Andrew Stolarski, learned all about it! They attended the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM) 2026 Building Museums Symposium in Baltimore and loved their time there! They volunteered to help set up the conference and learned all about the groundbreaking ways professionals are building new museums! 👷🏢

At the Cooperstown Graduate Program, learning comes in every flavor. Last week CGP students were introduced to a wide variety of tropical fruits and spices at the Science Discovery Center’s Tropical Fruit Day. 🍉

Learn how music has powered movements! Dr. William Walker will be giving an exciting seminar on American Protest Music, taking place this Thursday, March 12th. Dr. Walker will survey the intersections between protest songs, communal singing, and collective action for social, economic, and racial equity, and immigrant rights in the 20th and 21st centuries. 🎵
