Launched in January 2009, UGalilee, held every Spring semester, the the University of Miami (UM) study-aboard campus in Israel. It is located in Karmiel, a city in the center of the Galilee, where the countryside is the classroom. The semester-long program combines classroom lectures with field work in one of Israel's most culturally and ethnically diverse areas, where Jews, Arabs and Druze have l
ived peacefully side-by-side for decades. The focus of the core program is the history, geography, archaeology, cultures and religions that evolved in the Galilee over the ages. UGalilee also features a three-week intensive Hebrew language program at the start of the semester. UGalilee has the following tracks: Pre-Med Studies, International Studies, Journalism/Communication Studies, Judaic Studies; and Social Science and Humanities. The UM credits for these courses can be used to fulfill program requirements and will be counted as part of a student's GPA. Successful students earn 18 credits. The program is open to qualified students from UM and other universities. Undergraduate students at the UM are eligible to apply. Students from other universities, colleges and seminaries are also welcome to the program. The program may be of particular interest to students in the following areas:Pre-Med Studies, International Studies, Journalism.Communication Studies, Judaic/Jewish Studies, Israel Studies, Religious Studies, History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Sociology, and Philosophy.
