We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Robin Heinsen will be joining the music education faculty and Frost family in the fall as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Heinsen brings an outstanding blend of research, Kโ€“12 teaching, and teacher education experience. She earned her Ph.D. in Music and Human Learning from the University of Texas at Austin and her B.M. and M.M. in Music Education from the University of Georgia. Her research focuses on teacher cognition, preservice teacher development, and learner-centered pedagogy. She applies innovative research methods, such as eye-tracking technology, to better understand how music teachers think and make decisions in real time. She has various publications with leading journals, including Psychology of Music and the Journal of Research in Music Education. She is coming to us from her current appointment as an assistant professor at Miami University in Ohio (not to be confused with the U of Miami). In addition to her higher education work, she taught middle school band in Gwinnett County, Georgia, where she led highly successful music programs, received national recognition, and mentored future educators. We are so excited for the impact she will have on our students and the field of music education. Please join us in sending Dr. Heinsen a warm UMiami/Frost welcome!
