UM HIS is proud to present its sixth graduating senior profile featuring Ryan Skidmore. He is a History and Political Science double major whose work focuses on the Second World War, particularly the Pacific theater.
In his own words, "My honors thesis, The Price of Peleliu: Command, Combat, and Obscurity in the Pacific War, looked at the Battle of Peleliu, one of the war’s most contested campaigns. I received the Outstanding Achievement Award in History in 2026 for my work on this project. My most meaningful experiences in the department came from courses with Dr. Hermann Beck, where I was able to engage with questions stemming from the First and Second World War. More broadly, the History Department has expanded my worldview and taught me lessons about how to think critically on complex issues. After graduation, I will be attending the University of Miami School of Law, where I hope to build on the skills I developed as a History student. "
