UMiami Center for Humanities

UMiami Center for Humanities The Center for the Humanities hosts and sponsors events throughout the year.

The College of Arts and Sciences Center for the Humanities at the University of Miami was established in 2009 to support humanities, arts, and interpretive social science research and teaching, as well as to bringing to the Miami community an awareness of the importance of the humanities for a more informed understanding of our own and other cultures. Through lectures, conferences, seminars, and w

orkshops, scholars present their work, elicit critical responses, and stimulate public awareness and debate about the humanities. The goal of the Center is to provide mutual understanding among groups and cultures, provide support for research in the humanities, and enrich the intellectual culture of the University and community. Humanities departments and other related groups and programs often co-sponsor or hold their own events as well. These departments include:

Africana Studies
American Studies
Anthropology
Art & Art History
Classics
English
History
Latin American Studies
Modern Languages & Literatures
Philosophy
Religious Studies
Women & Gender Studies

We also currently have seven Interdisciplinary Research Groups:
Animal Studies & Environmental Humanities,
Antiquities,
Atlantic Studies,
Critical Theory Reading Group,
Early Modern Studies,
Queer Studies,
Modernities. Please check the calendar on our website for future events: http://humanities.miami.edu/calendar/
