It is always a great time to introduce current Miami Scholars, HOPE Fellows and volunteers to our phenomenal alumni! Our visit to the Supreme Court and our time with Justice Sotomayor were phenomenal. Miami Law’s Centennial Event in Washington DC was a great time of connecting and reconnecting those who share a commitment to justice and a determination to promote access to justice. This spring break, three Miami Law students traveled to El Paso, Texas to volunteer with Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center. 2L Denisse Sandoval reflected, “Thank you LAFAC and Friends of HOPE for the amazing opportunity to volunteer with Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center during spring break. Being able to jump right in and help conduct intakes at the local detention centers reminded me that, even as a law student, I can help make a difference. It was a fascinating experience to be immersed in the culture at the border in El Paso and to adapt to the needs of the local community.”

Thank you to 2L Sia Aleem for leading a relaxing and community-building guided painting session through PILB’s Public Interest Network again this year! It was a much-needed break and a creative outlet for students. Thank you to LAFAC for generously supporting the event!
