The mission of the Studio Music and Jazz Instrumental Degree Programs is to:

• Prepare jazz instrumentalists and vocalists to enter the music profession or graduate school;
• Identify, recruit, and retain high quality students who seek to pursue studio/jazz performance as a career;
• Foster faculty creativity and performance which serves as a role model for students;
• Develop, and revise courses

in jazz improvisation, jazz arranging/composition and provide on and off campus performance opportunities;
• Produce in our on campus facility, recordings for the Down Beat Student Music Awards, compact disks, radio and Internet broadcast; and
• Provide a platform of learning that includes performance, composition/arranging, technology, conducting, scholarship and production.

Don’t miss the Latin Jazz Orchestra’s last performance of the semester, TOMORROW on-campus!

GRAMMY-winning drummer and composer Dafnis Prieto blends his Cuban heritage with a forward-looking musical vision. A master storyteller and MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship recipient, Prieto crafts musical narratives through beautiful melodies and powerful rhythms.

After sold-out seasons with guests like Chucho Valdés, Michel Camilo, and Gema y Pavel, this year’s concert will feature an exciting repertoire of new compositions by Dafnis Prieto, alongside selections from Prieto’s GRAMMY-winning album Back to the Sunset—all brought to life by this powerhouse ensemble, not to be missed.

Join us this week for Maria Schneider’s week-long residency, concluding with a special concert featuring the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.

Music expresses life. A uniquely personal musical voice is something AI cannot replicate. For this concert, the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra will perform music by composers from Stephen Guerra’s studio jazz writing program. Each will share an impactful life experience expressed through their own musical prism.
