Instructure has reported that Canvas service has been restored. Del Mar College IT will continue monitoring the Canvas platform and share updates with students, faculty, and staff.

In light of this incident, we want to remind the campus community that Del Mar College will never contact you unsolicited by email, text, or phone to request passwords, Social Security numbers, birthdates, or bank account information.

If you receive any such request claiming to be from the college, do not respond and report it to the Viking Help Desk immediately.

If you continue to experience difficulty accessing Canvas, please contact the Help Desk for assistance.

DMC is actively monitoring the service interruption to Canvas. As Canvas works to restore access, please be assured that you will be allowed to make up any tests or assignments you may have missed during this downtime. Please reach out to your instructor for further guidance.

Vikings: please stay safe during this weekends freezing weather!

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Watch for the area from Saturday evening through Monday morning with temperatures in the 20s to 30s and wind chill values in the 10s to 20s.

In anticipation of this, the City will open two Overnight Refuge Centers, Saturday through Tuesday:
• Ben Garza Gym at 1815 Howard Street
• Del Mar College Windward Campus FEMA Dome, 4101 Old Brownsville Road - Entrance #1

The city will also open four Daytime Warming Centers on Sunday.

Residents are reminded that all City Public Libraries and Senior Centers are available during regular operating hours for those seeking a warm place.

The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority (CCRTA) will allow individuals to ride fare-free upon telling their Bus Operator they will travel to the nearest Daytime Warming Center or the Overnight Refuge Centers. For more information, go to http://www.ccrta.org.

FYI:

The College will close for the Winter Break at 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024 and will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Thursday morning, January 2, 2025.

The Student Success Center will be open M/Tu/Wed of this week from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. There will be limited tutoring for TSI, but if students need to return a laptop or calculator, print or use a computer, feel free to visit us in the Venters Bldg., Rm 310.

Good morning, Vikings! This play is a classic so don't miss out on the fun!

Opening October 4, Del Mar Drama presents Greater Tuna - a loving satire on small-town Texas life and attitudes starring Drama's own Kim Frederick and Carl Yowell. Frederick and Yowell have performed in many fundraisers/theatre productions over the years, including The Mystery of Irma Vep and Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).
This production will be a fundraiser for the Drama Program and Frederick's last time on the Del Mar stage as he is retiring at the end of the semester.

Want to meet the playwright? There will also be a special opportunity to meet playwright and co-creator of "Greater Tuna' - Jaston Williams - at a special pre-show reception on October 11. Tickets to this exclusive event are $100 and include entry into the performance on October 11.

All performance dates
Oct. 4 – Opening Night. There will be a cash bar and reception after the show.

Oct. 5 - Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night

Oct. 10 – Student Appreciation Night. All students (not just DMC students) with a student ID get free entry into the performance. There will be a cash bar for those of age and refreshments after the show. General Admission tickets will also be available for this night.

Oct. 11 – Special pre-show reception with the opportunity to meet Greater Tuna co-creator Jaston Williams. Tickets to the pre-show event are $100. There will be a cash bar for all attendees.

Oct. 12 - Closing night. There will be a cash bar.

All shows begin at 7:30pm in the Sue Sellors Finley Theatre in the Fine Arts Building on the Heritage Campus.
