This week, we’re highlighting Dietetic Graduate Student Brooke Robinson, who has completed internships with Centennial School District, Aramark, Providence, and WIC — with two more ahead with Dairy West and Fresenius. Brooke’s passion for nutrition and dietetics stems from the foundational role food plays in our health and well-being, and her desire to support others through such a meaningful part of daily life. Across food service, clinical, and community settings, she has applied classroom learning to real-world situations, deepening her skills and helping her develop her own approach as a future dietitian.

Brooke shares that these experiences have inspired her to advocate for improved nutrition outcomes across communities, and a standout moment was presenting a research poster at the Washington and Oregon Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics conference alongside fellow interns and registered dietitians. She credits the College of Health and OSU faculty for the incredible support and guidance throughout her journey.

Spring is allergy season in Corvallis, but there are ways to combat the pollen.

1. Keep the windows closed. This prevents the pollen from getting into your house.
2. Wash your hands often. Sometimes even a full shower is necessary to take the pollen off your body.
3. Yell at nature if you need to vent your frustrations.
4. Wear a mask to have a barrier against the pollen.
5. Take allergy medicine to relieve the symptoms.
Use these tips to take care of yourself this season.

[Video description: This video shows 5 clips. A girl closing a window and rubbing her eyes, sneezing while washing her hands, crouching down to yell at a flower, waving her arms around in front of a bush, and sighing while taking medication.]

This week, we’re highlighting Public Health student Mohamed Aboumengel, who completed his internship with Clackamas County Health, Housing & Human Services. Inspired by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mohamed became interested in public health after seeing how important the field is in supporting communities.

During his internship, Mohamed supported school immunization reporting efforts and generated exclusion letters for students not up to date on required vaccinations. Through this experience, he learned how state and county health departments collaborate to support public health systems.

Mohamed says the experience helped him understand how meaningful public health work can be, even behind-the-scenes tasks that keep systems running effectively. He also credits Oregon State faculty for helping shape his understanding of public health throughout his academic journey.
