Sustainability at OSU

Sustainability at OSU News and events about sustainability at OSU, plus tips on how to live sustainably on and off campus. Founded in November of 2005.

The OSU Sustainability Office is the primary support organization for sustainability efforts at OSU. The Oregon State University Sustainability Office is housed in Campus Operations, part of the Finance and Administration division. The office was formed by the creation of a full time sustainability coordinator position in November 2005. Shortly thereafter, another full-time staff position was crea

ted to focus on energy conservation efforts. Functional Areas include: Networking and Communications, Infrastructure and Administration, and Student Engagement and Academic Support. Energy efficiency and renewable energy projects are a major elements to our work, but our activities also expand into areas of political engagement, event planning, and projects related to personal behavior and energy use. Our office collaborates with departments across campus including, but not limited to Campus Recycling, ASOSU, and the Student Sustainability Initiative.

Community Engagement and Leadership is hosting a one-day leadership retreat on the Oregon coast! The goal is to practice how to address systems of inaccessibility in outdoor spaces, specifically for those with disability, and then implement practices to create more inclusive and accessible spaces. Students will have the opportunity to connect with others in the OSU community who are social justice-driven and dedicated to creating positive change. Join us for Beavs Lead: Change, and discover the power you hold and how you can use it to Spark Change! Food & transportation will be provided. This event is open to all students! No previous experience with leadership development is required. Register in our Linketree!

The bike generator is a human-powered device used to generate energy. By pedaling the bike generator, you can power anything from light bulbs to small electronics. At today’s sustainability fair we made cookies! The generator powers an inverter, which creates the same type of electricity as a household plug. The on-board 12-volt battery provides short-term energy storage so you can take a quick break from pedaling without losing power. The more you plug in, the higher resistance you will feel on the bike!
