Did you know that Oregon State University’s first Black graduate earned her bachelor’s degree 100 years ago, in 1926?

Carrie Halsell, ’27, went on to earn a master’s degree and build a career in higher education, teaching business courses at South Carolina State University.

Halsell graduated at a time when Black students were not permitted to live on campus at Oregon State. In 2002, the university named Halsell Hall, a residence hall, in honor of this trailblazing alumna and her role in Oregon State history. 🧡🖤

When pets complete chemotherapy treatment at Oregon State’s Lois Bates Acheson Veterinary Teaching Hospital, it’s a moment for celebration. These photos capture Zeus, a Doberman whose graduation marked a milestone both for him and for the family and veterinary team who supported him along the way.

Before she became the first woman to lead the Episcopal Church, Katharine Jefferts Schori, M.S. ’77, Ph.D. ’83, was an Oregon State graduate student studying squid. 🦑 On June 13, the university will recognize her trailblazing work with an honorary doctorate, the highest award given by Oregon State University.
